This week, it's a bit of a special article. An article specially dedicated to future brides (or to die-hard fans of white).
But first (and because I love it), a little history! Do you know where this choice of white color for the bride comes from?
💐 So here is the answer:
Since the dawn of time, it has been customary for the bride to wear a dress , the most beautiful and white one at that. In Ancient Egypt , brides adorned themselves with linen , white or ecru. In Greece, at the same time, young girls were also dressed in this light white drape .
A little later, under the Roman Empire , it was customary for the bride to wear a white dress accompanied by a crown of orange blossoms . Some sources add a yellow veil to the ceremonial outfit.
This desire to wear white was forgotten during the Middle Ages. The rule at that time was that the bride wore the most beautiful dress she owned , regardless of its color. Red and black were therefore widely used since these shades were easier for dyers to work with.
Then the fashion for white returned, especially with the international event of the 19th century: the wedding of Queen Victoria . The latter wore a white satin dress and a crown of orange blossoms accompanied by her veil. Exactly as Roman tradition dictated. This wedding dress had a resounding fashion effect since brides began to want to wear white again for their big day.
But it is also an outfit recommended by the Church , since white was above all the symbol of purity , of virginity. Very important conditions in the eyes of religion for a bride.
Since that time, white has remained the custom for brides, until today in the Western world. Indeed, Asian brides do not get married in white, the color of mourning. They wear a flamboyant red dress, the color of happiness. 👗 Even if we see brides from oriental countries getting married in white today.
Now that you know everything about the origin of the choice of white for the wedding dress, let's talk socks!
