What is the Okeo-Tex label?

Posted by Atelier St Eustache on

If you've been browsing our website, you've probably read that our socks are made from OEKO-TEX certified yarns, but what does that mean exactly?

The Oeko-Tex label

Valid worldwide since 1992 , the OEKO-TEX or OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification applies to all textiles , whether raw , semi-finished or finished (fibers, threads, dyed fabrics, buttons, embroidery, clothing, curtains, etc.). All types of textiles are concerned, whether in the medical or automotive fields.

Its aim? To identify and eliminate potential sources of problematic substances and to simply guarantee to consumers that they are not buying a product that is dangerous for themselves.

The product may, however, contain some harmful substances in small quantities but must not present a real danger to the consumer.

Label standards

18 research institutes are responsible for analyzing each element of the product submitted for testing as well as its company. Random checks are also carried out on products found in stores .

The French Textile and Clothing Institute , not far from Lyon , is the only French organization authorized to process certification requests. It thus carries out tests in accordance with the specifications defined by OEKO-TEX .

The tests will cover more than 300 substances , and the certification limit values go beyond national and international requirements . Once the certification is obtained , it is valid for one year . Each year, the criteria are updated and enriched with new requirements and new knowledge .

I hope this article has helped you a little more to understand this label and what it consists of!
