What is Down syndrome?
Trisomy 21 , also called Down Syndrome , is not a disease but a chromosomal abnormality . Very common, it is caused by the presence of chromosome 21 in three copies instead of two, thus leading to an imbalance in the entire functioning of the body due to the excess of genes carried by the chromosome.
In France, 50,000 people are thought to have Down syndrome. Each of these people is obviously not limited to this anomaly, they are unique with their own personality. This disability can manifest itself in different ways depending on the person, although it generally results in a mild to moderate intellectual deficiency, growth disorders and insufficient development of muscle tone.
To learn more about this disease, we invite you to consult the Trisomie 21 France website.
An action around socks
One of the actions of this day, initiated by the association " Down Syndrome International " and then taken up by Trisomie 21 is to wear mismatched socks . This action, which seems very simple, allows us to promote difference and diversity.
Also known as " Lot of Socks ", this action has also been able to count on the enthusiasm of social networks. Thus, it is not uncommon to see a lot of users sharing photos of their mismatched socks under the hashtags specific to the day.
All mismatched at Atelier St Eustache
Socks being the favorite domain of Atelier St Eustache , it was obvious for us to participate in the mismatched socks action to raise awareness of Down syndrome. The whole team therefore participates in the challenge by wearing their mismatched Atelier St Eustache socks.
